How Government Recruitment Boards Reckon Candidate Age

In Indian government examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB), and the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), candidate eligibility is never determined on your application submission date. Instead, every recruitment notification specifies a strict "Crucial Cutoff Date".

01 August Cutoff Rule

Applicable to all exams whose notification is published in the second half of the calendar year (between July 1st and December 31st). For instance, SSC CGL 2026, SSC CHSL 2026, and UPSC CSE 2026 typically fix 01-08-2026 as the crucial age date.

01 January Cutoff Rule

Applicable to recruitment notifications published in the first half of the year (January 1st to June 30th). For example, RRB ALP, RRB Technician, and early annual bank notifications reckon candidate age as on 01-01-2026.
